With four full-time staff, more than 20 part-time faculty, two of the most highly-realistic simulation environments of their kind, eleven years of experience and the ability to engineer and adapt multiple mannequins to over 350 scenarios based on actual claims, CMS provides one of the best patient care simulation experiences available anywhere in the world.
Many of our participants tell us that their time at CMS was the single most valuable and meaningful learning experience of their career. 99% report finding the courses useful and 97% believe they will perform better the next time they respond to a critical event, based on what they learned in the course. |
| |
| All of our courses consider both clinical and behavioral aspects of performance, focusing on crisis management and error prevention. Topics include leadership, teamwork, effective communication, resource management, and performance enhancement. Active learning in the CMS real-world setting enhances the retention and application of these target skills and behaviors. The confidential environment away from one's home institution makes it comfortable and easier to learn at CMS. |

A typical day begins at 7:30 AM. The day is filled with experiences in simulated clinical situations (scenarios) relevant to the learners' domain, separated by debriefings that are supported by videotape of the scenarios. There are some didactic presentations to orient the participants to the CMS learning model, which is based on the now widely accepted Crisis Resource Management principles.
The debriefings by our skilled instructors are the core of the learning experience. Most groups finish by 4:30 PM. Through these realistic scenarios and constructive debriefing sessions, CMS encourages an open and motivational discussion of performance and error to instill the principles of teamwork throughout the entire healthcare system. |
