About CMS

OUR PURPOSE

At the Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) we are dedicated to improving patient safety and healthcare quality by using simulation for education, training and research. The Center’s programs focus on communication, collaboration and crisis management to develop skills and behaviors that are best learned actively under realistic conditions to improve performance of individuals and teams in the real world

OUR HISTORY
CMS put the first commercially-produced, full-featured mannequin simulator to work in training clinicians for teamwork and crisis management in 1994. Since then, we’ve expanded in many directions, developing and operating courses for clinicians, medical educators, administrators and managers, and an array of other activities involving medical simulation. Though the field has grown rapidly in the meantime, CMS continues to differentiate itself with its multi-disciplinary expert staff, exceptionally high-quality, innovative programs in full-environment facilities, breadth of offerings, and over a decade of experience in medical simulation. We have trained nearly 6000 participants at a growth rate averaging 30% per year, using more than 350 different scenarios in over 900 courses.

And we’re just getting started...

OUR EXPERIENCE
Our team’s combined experience in medical simulation is unsurpassed. This experience has taught us that medical simulation is most effective as a tool for learning when the sessions employ techniques drawn from multiple disciplines, customized to the level and background of each group. We have assembled an elite team of over 25 professionals with expertise in medicine, patient safety, biomedical engineering, organizational behavior and adult learning. Each session we run is different and uniquely effective.
